Only three weeks left until the big day! These bulls really hit a gear this last 30 days and will be looking great come our March 8th sale day! Our bulls are gaining well and are looking good! Efficiency data is now available on 123 bulls! We will keep you posted on the females and bulls on the Growsafe system now. Sixty-five yearling heifers joined the party after the 1st of the year. For the first time in the 64 year test history we collecting performance data on 288 bulls and heifers!

Angus: This group of bulls are 128 strong. They have ramped up their gain, averaging 3.83 lbs per day and are averaging over 1100 lbs! Still leading this big group of competitive yearlings is from Lust Angus (Abernathy, TX). Sired by Woodhill Domain Y493-J309, Lot number 4-20 has the highest gain ratio (ADG + WDA) of 118.73! The top gaining bulls this go around are from Walker Angus. Lots 6-3 and 6-9 are gaining a sustained 4.81 lbs per day over the 97 days on test.

Braunvieh: J Bar Braunvieh, out of Hedley, TX has once again brought a great set of yearling Braunvieh bulls. These gentle heavy muscled bulls would make a great addition to any cross-breeding program. The group is continuing to improve on the gain, averaging 3.70 lbs of gain per day. Efficiency data is soon to come!

Charolais: Grau Charolais is our longest active member of the Tucumcari Bull Test. They continue to bring us a nice set of uniform and efficient bulls. Lot 1-1 continues to do lead the group, gaining 3.75 per day. Sired out of their herd sire GCR SUPREME MARKSMAN R6, this calf ranked in the top 10% for feed efficiency (5.32 lbs feed per 1 lb gain) and one of the lowest RFI values across the pen.

Hereford: Nineteen bulls from three producers make up this year’s set of Herefords. Change in leadership this go around. Lot 12-3 from Abercrombie Ranch now leads the (ADG+WDA ratio) with an index of 116.08. 11-9 is gaining an impressive 4.13 lbs per day! Corn Hereford’s Lot 11-1 now leads the Hereford group for gain at 3.87 lbs per day. Proof that efficiency is truly heritable comes from one of our previous efficiency winners. Cornerstone Ranch brought us one of the best performing and most efficient bulls to the test is in recent history. They kept him as a herd sire and now his progeny are following in his footsteps. Sired by CHURCHILL WILDCAT 754E, Lot 10-3 is converting 4.62 lbs per lb of gain. This is a full 2 lbs better than pen average! This bull will help improve the efficiency of your herd!!

LimFlex: New to the test is the LimFlex breed. A cross of Limousin and Angus, these attractive, thick made bulls will add to your weaning weights and muscle shape to your calves. Walking Spear Land and Cattle out of Roswell, NM brought three real nice, uniform bulls. All of these bulls really hit a gear this last 30 days, averaging 3.98 lbs across the board! Lot 17-1 is out of CHR Hard Rocks 151H. This calf continues outstanding performance, gaining over 4.4 lbs a day and converting at 5.13 lbs! If you are looking to add hybrid vigor to your herd take your pick of these three.

Red Angus: The Red Angus group comes with great performance and great EPDs’! Leadership has changed in this group. Lot 16-1 from Long Trot Cattle Co. (Cimarron, NM) is gaining 3.57 lbs per day. This moderate attractive bull is the one to watch! Notably, Lot #15-1, from Duvall Ranches (Lamar, CO) has impressive efficiency data behind him, converting at 5.22 lbs and has a – 3.43 for RFI. This puts his efficiency ratio at 113.6!

Salers: K4 Cattle brought us eight very nice Salers. Another leader board change with this set of bulls. The current leader of the group is Lot # 18-5. Sired by K4 Cattle’s herd sire CLK Habanero, he is gaining 3.21 per day. Lot 18-4, sired by JPK Knight is another one to watch, he converted 4.66 lbs feed per lb of gain, ranking well above the group FE average.

Simmental/SimAngus: Valigura Simmental have brought 31 yearling bulls and 20 females to the test this year. This will provide buyers a great selection of quality replacements to increase weaning weights and forage efficiency. The top ranking bull (ADG ratio + WDA ratio) in this group is lot # 5-2. This SimAn bull, sired out of GIBBS 9114G ESSENTIAL; gaining 5.00 per day with a WDA of 3.80! Efficiency is the name of the game for another of their bulls. Lot 5-17 is converting at a whopping 3.68 lbs of feed per lb of gain!!! Out of CLRS KANGAROO 956K, this bull is the whole package; topping the scales at 1200 lbs and is also gaining 4.12 lbs per day!!

Akaushi: This is the second year to have this unique breed at the test. Black Akaushi, out of Friona, TX has two bulls in the offering. If you are not familiar with the breed, they are known for carcass quality. If you sell beef off the ranch, using these genetics can raise quality grades in your cattle within a single generation.
